| The argument between Prince Henry Probus and Bishop Thomas the Third ended up with founding of two chapter houses. The Prince founded St. Cross chapter house in Wrocław, and the Bishop founded St. Thomas of Canterbury castle chapter house in Racibórz. The Racibórz chapter house was still extended during the Piasts to hold another Canons House; it came to full flourishing under the Przemyslids. Holding five prebends during the last of the Piasts, it gained next twelve. Despite the fact that Prince John the Second named "Iron" did not always observe the Christian principles of life, he went down in history for the Raciborz chapter house’s major donnor-founder or co-founder of as many as eight canons prebends and the participant of the foundation of two prelatures. Caused by anxiety and with care for the due place in which the clergymen could celebrate liturgical duties, he turned the chapter house to the Blessed Virgin Mary parish church. He himself was its kind custodian and granted it privileges and its inheritors were asked to remember, protect and support that redemptive institution. Not only did they obey the Prince but they also contributed to its development by further foundations. Prince Wacław was also interested in its legal status since the chapter house turned to him to accept its statutes. A close relationship of local governors with the chapter house can also be seen in the staff members of those prebends. The staff members of the Prince office did not only make the primary canons group but they were also seen in it until the end of the Przemyslids times. Also the parsons, both municipal and those of the principality countryside, the clergymen with university education and academic degrees, the sons of local chivalry and gentry could count on the kindness of the Przemyslids. Their gratitude was expressed in the service for their lord and in their prayer memory which was cultivated for centuries.. |
