Abstrakt
| The paper deals with the principle of deinstitutionalization and its application to retirement homes in the Czech Republic. The aim is to find out whether the principle of deinstitutionalization is a feasible concept for the whole country in the current socioeconomic situation and whether it is possible to exclude large-scale residential services from the future of social care. It can be concluded that all the indicators monitored (numbers of workers in social services, capacities of organisations, construction) go fundamentally against the vision of a community type of institution, which is not economically efficient but is humane. The Czech Republic does not have the capacity of services (outreach, support, etc.) and sufficient number of workers to provide home care. There are also not enough small community-type facilities, which are preferred by professionals and clients. Their possible construction can be considered a very expensive plan, given the current prices of construction works and the expected development. The principles of deinstitutionalisation that bind community-type residential institutions together are not currently achievable on a national scale. For these reasons, it is not possible in the current situation to completely exclude large-scale residential social services from the social care system and to end their financial and other support.. |
